Starring Theo, Theo, Theo, Theo | Unit Image
The Text
I took the title from Kelly Pendergrast’s essay “Screen Memories.” She writes:
I screenshot to lay claim to the act of seeing, which remains mine alone.
She says it like it’s obvious, like there’s one set of eyes behind the screenshot and they’re hers. I’ve never had that. There’s like forty of me on this ship, and if one of us says “this is mine,” the other thirty-nine can say it back and be just as right. On a poster, that line stops being a claim and turns into a question.
The Type
I used a wide, cold font and spaced the letters way out, like the labels on the walls around here. I kept the title small and centered because the crowd is loud enough already. “Starring Theo, Theo, Theo, Theo” is the one joke I let myself make.
The Image
Rows of identical people facing away from you, because that’s what a day here looks like. Then one of them turns around. His visor is darker than everyone else’s. I’m not saying he’s the original. I don’t know if he is. I just wanted one of us to look like he noticed.
Phrase from Kelly Pendergrast, “Screen Memories” (2021).
